If you've been checking our blog regularly, I would imagine that you might be a little miffed that we haven't posted anything lately. Well, I have a few excuses, but none of them very good. One bright spot is that we went up to Grand Rapids, MI to watch Steve run his 4th marathon. It's become an annual event and we stay with Steve's cousin, Mike, in Lake Odessa which is a lazy little town high with a lot of charm. This year the trip was more nostalgic than usual because it was the first time we travelled to Lake O. without Bob. Memories were discussed at length...the McCartney Building on main street, a late night ice cream run to Dairy Queen, cribbage games, catching blue gills off Mike's dock, a visit to Bob's "girlfriend", etc. At least we didn't have to make a trip to the emergency room in Ionia!! (Funny story about that trip: when Bob was getting checked in, the nurse asked if he'd been seen at that hospital before. He said, "Well, I was born here. Does that count?" Of course their records didn't go back that far!)
Anyway, enough stories. Here are some pics at the conclusion of the race. Sarah ran out to him as he was headed down the home stretch. As he slowed down to intercept her hug a spectator called out, "Don't slow down now! You're almost there!" Steve just gave him a funny look and picked up Sarah for a victory hug. Don't they know it's a little refreshing to see your daughter after running for 4 hours!?! Sheesh!
Uh oh! Don't sit down after a marathon...it took two of us to get him back up!
This was a really cool statue at the Meijer Botanical Gardens in Grand Rapids. It's one of the largest bronze statues in the world. Yes, that's Sarah and I trying to stand on his hoof. Quite an enormous horse! Plus, let's say he's...ahem...anatomically correct. Sarah was a little alarmed to stand under his tail!
Okay, for some lighthearted fun pictures! Here's Sarah and Logan snuggling on the couch. As you can see, he's still a thumb-sucker although mostly when he's tired.
He is a great smiler and it doesn't take much to get a good one. Even strangers comment on how quick he is to flash a grin.
Monster kisses anyone? This was from a cute pumpkin decorating set we got so we didn't have to carve a pumpkin a month early! It seems that the holiday celebrations all need to start 6 weeks early when you are 5 years old. She's already asking why we can't get the Christmas tree out now! Darn store displays!! Lowe's already has their Christmas merchandise out! Argh!
Riding the rolling zebra. Thank you Rhymers for giving this gift to Sarah for her 1 year birthday. It's gotten a lot of use!
Riding the cheaper version...Pampers box! Good thing your big sister can push you around...come to think of it, you may not like this too much later in life. Enjoy it while it's still fun!
Here's another new skill: Pulling up and standing on just about anything! No, he didn't knock the chair down, it's part of our barrier/containment system. (Think cheap baby gate!)
